American Airlines on Tuesday temporarily grounded all flights on Christmas Eve due to “technical issues.”
“All American Airlines flights are currently experiencing technical issues,” the airline wrote on social media in response to customer complaints.

When asked by a customer how long normal operations would be delayed, the company said, “No estimated timeframe has been given, but we are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”

According to ABC News, major airlines resumed normal operations about an hour after requesting a ground stop from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). reported. According to ABC News, American Airlines apologized in a statement for “any inconvenience this morning” caused by the decision to order the ground stop. The Transportation Security Administration estimates it will screen about 40 million travelers during the holiday season, which runs from Dec. 19 to Jan. 2. American Airlines said it expects Dec. 20 and Dec. 27 to be the busiest days of the holiday season.
