An entire Alabama radio station is reported stolen

Thieves struck in Walker County and stole not the radio, but an entire 200-foot-tall AM radio tower. The theft occurred at YHN Network affiliate WJLX in Jasper.

Station General Manager Brett Elmore said: yellow hammer news The thieves took radio towers, transmitters and processors.

Elmore said the Bush Hog crew first noticed the theft on Friday when they went to mow the site. They find that the tower is gone and the transmitter building is empty. All that remained were the power lines where the tower once stood.

Elmore said replacing the tower and equipment would be quite expensive. He maintains that stealing cell phone towers is a federal crime and remains hopeful that the culprit will be identified. The station is working to obtain temporary authority from the FCC to continue broadcasting with an FM translator while it restructures its AM operations.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Jasper Police or Crimestoppers.
