“An immediate outcome of divine grace” – Judge Matt Fridy on his recovery journey after a heart attack

Judge Fridi Shares Update After Heart Attack

Alabama Civic Appeal Court Judge Matt Fridi released his first official statement on Thursday, just a week after experiencing a heart attack.

He expressed confidence in his medical team’s efforts and faith in divine support, believing that it has guided him toward recovery.

Fridi recounted how his wife, Kimberly, who is a pharmacist, recognized the seriousness of his chest pain. They quickly called 911, potentially avoiding more serious consequences. “I’m incredibly thankful to the Pelham Fire Rescue, the emergency team, and the doctors and nurses at Baptist Cardiac who played a role in saving my life,” he stated.

He also took a moment to appreciate the outpouring of prayers and support from friends and strangers alike. “From close family to complete strangers, numerous Alabamans sent messages of encouragement for my recovery. I truly believe that the progress I’ve made is thanks to God’s grace,” he mentioned. “My mind might have been a bit shaky, but my determination and love for my five children keep me focused on healing.”

Fridi expressed a desire to return to his judicial responsibilities as soon as possible and requested that prayers continue for his ongoing recovery. Initially, his family opted against visitors to allow him the best chance for healing.

At 49, Fridi, who once chaired the Shelby County Republican Party, is notably the second prominent state official to suffer a heart attack in recent years. Senator Tim Melson experienced a similar health scare during a trip to South Korea in 2023 but has since made a full recovery and now chairs the Senate Health Committee.

“In the US, there are about 805,000 heart attacks each year. My experience, while significant to me, is just one among many who have overcome such challenges,” Fridi remarked. He concluded with a quote from Jeremiah, “Lord, heal me; and I will be healed.”
