Moms for Liberty warns that the education records of Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz are filled with anti-parent policies, including stripping away parental rights and introducing gender and socialist indoctrination into schools.

Moms for Freedom hosted more than 600 parents at events in Washington, DC, from August 29 to September 1, calling on voters across the country to take action on parental rights issues in education. The group plans to spend more than $3 million to elect school committee members who are committed to protecting parental rights and fighting back against Harris and Walz's “radical” and “anti-parent” policies.

“A Presidential candidate Harris Waltz is arguably the most anti-parent candidate the Democratic Party has put forward, and we are sounding the alarm.“Tiffany Justice, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, said in an interview with the Daily Caller News Foundation. “We want parents to know the truth, so when they go to vote, they will understand that Kamala Harris and Tim Walz don't trust you as parents. They think the government knows more about your kids than you do, and we reject that..”

Moms for Liberty has been on the front lines of the fight for parental rights in education, and since 2021 has established more than 300 chapters with more than 130,000 members in nearly all 50 states, according to a representative for the organization. “The biggest problem that's happening right now is that too often parents aren't given accurate information to make the best decisions for their children,” Justice said. “If you're a mother or a father, you have a right to honest, accurate information. How is your child actually doing in school? How are kids in that school doing in general? You have a right to know if only 7 percent of kids in your son or daughter's grade are reading at grade level. And you have a fundamental right to direct your child's education. We're going to work hard to make sure parents have choices and that their kids aren't trapped in low-performing schools.”

Justice emphasized the importance of mobilizing otherwise politically inactive voters around issues they care about and spoke about how Moms for Liberty helps provide important information to voters, saying change starts with “conversations at the dinner table.”

“This is not a complicated issue. Mothers and fathers are taking the lead in their children's education. This is really not complicated,” Justice told DCNF. “So we're speaking to the American people in a way that respects their intelligence. People are smart. Americans are smart, and they want to hear the truth.”

One of the biggest issues Moms for Liberty is fighting right now is the pervasiveness of gender ideology in schools.

“When it comes to the issues that really concern parents, like gender ideology and all this transgender craziness that's going on right now, parents have been lied to about those issues,” Justice warned. “Parents have been told that if they don't allow their son or daughter to transition, they might commit suicide. That's a lie. Parents have been told that puberty suppressants and cross-sex hormones are reversible. They're not. [They cause] This causes terrible harm and damage to children's lifelong health and development.”

“The idea of ​​sterilizing children is insanity and we are absolutely determined to stop it,” Justice continued.

“You just look at Minnesota, what Tim Walz has done, trying to take away custody of a child if they don't want to change their gender, saying parental rights don't matter, the state will change a child's gender even if the parents don't want it, that's insanity,” Justice continued, warning of policies supported by the candidates in their states. She also singled out Harris' home state of California, saying the state's test performance is “totally abysmal” and that California and Minnesota have become “sanctuary states” that are “trying to take away parental rights.”

The term “sanctuary state” has been used to refer to states that allow minors to undergo gender reassignment surgery without parental approval. Governor Walz signed a bill in Minnesota in 2023 called the “Trans Refugee Bill.” The bill would allow the state to take custody of a child if the parents refuse gender reassignment surgery, and would also apply to individuals crossing state lines for treatment that the state declares “medically necessary.”

Justice said Republicans should focus on “trusting the American people, telling the truth, letting them know that the future of our country is at stake, that we are in a time of crisis, that the rise of communism, of Marxism, is happening right now.” He noted that in a recently resurfaced video, Waltz said, “One man's socialism is another man's neighborliness,” referring to a teacher who once told his students that communism is “everyone's the same, everyone's sharing.”

Asked about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, Justice cited Trump's strong family ties as a sign of hope for parental rights supporters, saying, “He seems to have a really good relationship with his family.”

“There is a strong expectation that parental rights will be protected and upheld.” [under a Trump presidency]”Parental rights are fundamental rights, so the government doesn't give them to you, so he's not giving anything to anybody,” Justice said.

“Another thing we've seen in President Trump's actions that Moms for Liberty can relate to is the weaponization of the federal government against the American people,” she continued. “We've seen President Trump address this very directly. Moms for Liberty members have been called domestic terrorists. The FBI called one of our mothers who spoke at a school committee meeting. We just recently learned through a FOIA request that the FBI refused to investigate a very real threat to the health and safety of me and my children. I can't imagine why they would want to make America's mothers and fathers so vulnerable to those who want to harm us.”

Moms for Liberty boasts that its endorsed school board candidates in Florida's 2024 primary have a 60% winning rate, and that its endorsed candidates in 2023 have a 33% winning rate overall, according to a representative for the organization.
