Apache Junction man found guilty of murdering wife in 2020

A jury has found 33-year-old Carl Hansen guilty of murdering his wife in 2020.

Carl Hansen, 33, was sentenced last week in Pinal County Superior Court after a jury found him guilty of first-degree murder.

The defendant originally told police he found his wife, Cassondra Maloney, 29, dead at the couple’s residence near Ironwood Drive and Lost Dutchman Boulevard.

An autopsy determined that Maloney died of blunt force trauma.

According to the victim’s obituary, Cassondra was a mother of six who enjoyed learning new things and dreamed of becoming a teacher.

“She was a gifted music lover. She mastered the art of flute and piccolo and had long dreamed of teaching music at school,” the obituary states.
