Apartment fire near Romero and Wetmore Roads shuts down traffic in area

Tucson, Arizona (KGUN) — updated at 9:15 p.m.

The Arizona American Red Cross is responding to the fire and helping those affected by the fire at Homer Davis Elementary School.

About 20 people were affected in 13 units.

North Romero Road is now open to traffic, according to the PCSD.

Update 7:31pm

Over 45 firefighters responded to the two alarm fires in the village of Romero Apartments.

The area is still active and crew members are asking you to avoid the area.

One person was taken to hospital with minor injuries, according to the NWFD.

The crew is still in the Romero apartment village.

Witnesses near the fire site said Romero Road from Wetmore Road to Prince Road was closed.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the Northwest Fire District responded to an apartment fire near Romero Road.

The fire broke out on Friday afternoon at Block 4200 of N. Romero Rd.

Both northbound and southbound lanes are closed as residents evacuate.

Drivers should anticipate traffic and find alternative routes.
