Arcadia Beats Coconino 19-17, In A Playoff-Style Game In Flagstaff Friday – KAFF News – Flagstaff

The Coconino Panthers and Arcadia Titans met in a playoff-style football game on Friday night at Cromer Stadium at Coconino High School in Flagstaff. After a scoreless first quarter in which Coconino quarterback Colton Buckingham was intercepted twice in Arcadia territory, the Panthers scored first on an 8-yard touchdown run by Buckingham. The Titans quickly fought back, scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run by Jax Ashley to tie the game at 7-7. Arcadia scored again on a 3-yard touchdown run by Ryan Jimenez, but the PAT was blocked, giving Arcadia a 13-7 lead. Coconino pressed on, and Jose Miguel Villanueva hit a 40-yard field goal just before the buzzer to take a 13-10 lead into halftime. On Arcadia's first drive, a throwing error by quarterback Braylon Looney resulted in Coconino getting the ball. The Panthers drove and scored on a 9-yard touchdown run by Fernando Ramirez to put Coconino up 17-13. Late in the third quarter, Looney left the game with an injury to his throwing arm. He was replaced by backup quarterback Zach Smith. He led the Titans on a long drive that ended with a 1-yard run by Ian Slater. The PAT failed, making it 19-17. The Panthers tried to drive down the field to give Villanueva a chance to win the game, but they delayed and Arcadia beat Flagstaff by two points. Coconino had 340 yards of total offense, compared to Arcadia's 266. The Panthers stifled Titans quarterback Braylon Looney. He was 7 of 19 for 95 yards. Coconino will host Poston Butte next Saturday at Coconino at 3 p.m., while Arcadia will host Camelback next Friday.
