The budget also includes $9 million for the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office substations at Lake Havasu City, the Mojave Valley, Beaver Dam, and a boat station on the Colorado River. Originally proposed by Biacicucci, the state budget will fund the renovation of various substations in the county.
Sheriff Doug Schuster testified before Congress that renovations and maintenance have been long overdue and would benefit various other public safety agencies that use the building. Schuster also raised liability concerns around snakes, rats and scorpions.
The MCSO will also receive $500,000 for the Sheriff’s Movement Command Center. The La Paz County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center will receive $1 million and the Wickenburg Fire Department will receive $2 million.
Highway 95 between Bullhead City and Mojave Valley received $8 million in funding to add a right turn lane. In addition, $5 million has been designated to the State Lake Improvement Fund. The bill was introduced by Biacicucci and co-sponsored by Gillette and Borelli.
For Kingman, the budget includes $4 million set aside for the Mojave Wash Ponds. The bill, proposed by Gillette, specified $4.3 million for the project, but raised millions from the state budget approved on May 11. The project will benefit recharge activities within the Hualapai Basin, a major water source for the City of Kingman.
