CASAGRANDE, Arizona (AP) – A woman has been arrested in connection with the death of her boyfriend who was hit by a car after a family dispute, according to Arizona police.
Casa Grande Police announced on Saturday that Sherry Sears, 51, was incarcerated at the Pinal County Jail on second-degree murder charges.
It wasn’t immediately clear on Sunday whether a lawyer would still be available to plead on Sears’ behalf.
Billy Stephen, 59, lies near the road in critical condition after a car-pedestrian collision occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, police were called out, and suffered “significant trauma.” Police said they found Mr.
Stevens was taken to a hospital in Phoenix but died of his injuries.
“Detectives found significant evidence to conclude that Sears and Stevens had a verbal argument before hitting them with their car,” the police said in a statement.
Sears remained at the scene until he was taken into custody, police said.
The case was sent to the county attorney’s office for review.
Casa Grande is roughly halfway between Phoenix and Tucson.
