Arizona DOT releases plan for Maricopa / Chandler area interchange

Independent NewsMedia

The Arizona Department of Transport has announced the final design choice for a future interchange to carry the bridge to carry the state’s Route 347 across Riggs Road, southwest of Chandler, north of Maricopa.

This design requires the removal of the current ground level stoplight intersection of the two roads. The Diamond Interchange will have a new SR 347 bridge and on- and off-lights providing connections to Riggs Road, according to a news release.

Adot’s planning process focuses on improving safety, reducing congestion and improving time to and from the Maricopa area. Grade-separated (immersion lamp) interchanges allow SR 347 traffic to flow freely through the rigs.

As part of the interchange design, left and right lanes are added along Riggs Road, improving access to the released SR 347.

The project is currently in the final design stage. It is expected to be ready to promote it for construction by early 2026.

Adot is partnering with the Gila River Indian Community and the Maricopa Government Association in partnership with the Federal Bureau of India to plan the project.
