Arizona firefighter accused of setting several fires

ASHFOLK, Arizona — A young firefighter is believed to be the serial arsonist who started several fires in Yavapai and Coconino counties last month, officials said.

Ashfork Fire Department firefighter Carson Nutter has pleaded responsible for at least seven arson incidents since June 15, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.

The 18-year-old Nutter admitted his motives for starting some of the fires were “boredom” or revenge against a former employer, according to the YCSO.

Structures set on fire included Ash Fork Mobile Station, Ash Fork County Cemetery, two abandoned houses on Kaibab Estate West, and land along 124 Forest Service Road.

Nutter allegedly told investigators that he would set fire to an abandoned house he thought was “ugly.”

At least half of the fires occurred in Yavapai County and the rest in Coconino County.

Mr. Nutter was recently put in prison and charged with arson, criminal damages and false reporting to law enforcement. The Ash Fork fire station is run by volunteers, according to the fire department. Page on Facebook.
