An estimated 13,553 people will be homeless in Arizona by 2023according to the latest information Housing and Urban Development Department (HUD) data.% Arizona figures More than 2% of the nation’s homeless population.
in a newly published book lending tree analysis Researchers used the new HUD data to try to identify places with the most and least homelessness. Findings specific to Arizona:
- Ranking: No.8
- Number of homeless people: 13,553
- Percentage of homeless in shelters: 28.84%
- Homeless Percentage of State Population: 0.18%
- Median house price: $336,300
Additional Important Findings
- California, New York, and Florida have the highest homeless populations. More than 270,000 people are homeless across three densely populated states, nearly half of the homeless population in the United States.
- North Dakota, Wyoming and Mississippi have the lowest homeless populations. North Dakota (610) and Wyoming (648) are the only states with fewer than 1,000 homeless people. 1,196 people are homeless in Mississippi.
- Homelessness is most prevalent in the District of Columbia, California, and Vermont, relative to the local population. Across these regions, an average of 0.51% of the population is homeless.
- States with higher housing prices tend to have proportionately higher homeless populations. While expensive housing can exacerbate homelessness, it’s important to note that the main factors that make people homeless can be other, more complex factors.
