Arizona highway is open again after being closed because of wildfires.

The White Sage and Dragon Bravo fires in northern Arizona have led to a two-week closure of the highway.

Flagstaff, Arizona – After being shut down for two weeks, US Route 89A in northern Arizona has reopened due to ongoing wildfires in the vicinity.

The Arizona Department of Transportation announced on July 24 that the highway is now open to vehicles in both directions. However, they advised that drivers should remain cautious as crews continue their efforts to manage the Bravo fires at White Sage and Dragon.

This route is essential for accessing the North Rims of the Grand Canyon National Park, though park officials noted that developed areas in the North Rim will remain closed to the public.

Recent wildfires have resulted in the destruction of over 70 structures in that area.

As of July 24, the White Sage fire has consumed approximately 58,980 acres, with around 75% of it being affected. Meanwhile, the Dragon Bravo fire has burned an estimated 23,082 acres, with about 26% containment.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, Route 67 southbound is currently closed south of Lake Jacob.

In a statement, Arizona DOT noted that while US 89A has reopened after two weeks of wildfire-related closure, crews are still active in the area. Drivers are urged to heed warnings and follow guidance for everyone’s safety, with the southbound SR 67 barrier still in place south of Lake Jacob.
