Driver, be careful! A new report ranks the most dangerous intersections in the United States, and he has one here in Arizona.
Colorado-based law firm Fang Law Firm used 20 years of crash data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to compile a list of the nation’s most dangerous intersections. “Fang Law Firm said he had two key factors behind the country’s most dangerous intersection,” the report said. “First, most are secondary roads, usually national roads with unrestricted access. These roads tend to cross slower local roads at traffic lights and signalized intersections. Fang Note that Law Firm excluded collisions at highway interchanges, driveway exits, and pedestrian paths.”
Furthermore, “rural areas with less than 2,500 inhabitants had a disproportionate number of fatalities.”
In Arizona, it placed 12th overall at the intersection of Pierce Ferry Road and US-93 in Mojave County. Here’s why:
Seven fatalities occurred at an intersection in Arizona, 77 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2020, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) completed a project to better separate left turn lanes from highway traffic. ADOT is considering building a half-he interchange to allow drivers to turn left from his US-93 onto Pierce Ferry Road without crossing the opposite lane.
