Phoenix – Dragon Bravo Fire Concerns
The Lightning Dragon Bravo Fire has been raging through much of July, raising worries among local businesses and prompting Arizona politicians to demand accountability.
Kaibab Lodge, which is on the verge of celebrating its 100th anniversary, is precariously close to the ongoing flames, leading to daily anxieties about the fire’s proximity.
Lodge owner Larry Innes remarked that the next few days are critical for the safety of the lodge, as firefighters tirelessly work to protect this historic site while keeping the flames at bay.
“They really believe it’s essential for the future of the lodge, especially since we’re close enough to the park that we can aid in rebuilding,” Innes noted.
Washington Conversations
This week, rebuilding plans for North Rim communities, including the fire-damaged Grand Canyon Lodge, were significant points of discussion in Washington, D.C. Governor Katie Hobbs met with leaders such as Interior Secretary Doug Burgham and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, along with Representative Reuben Gallego.
“We discussed how to keep Arizona’s economy thriving and how to recover from the Dragon Bravo Fire,” Senator Kelly shared. Gallego added, “Naturally, we touched on Arizona’s vital priorities, like protecting the Grand Canyon and ensuring our water supply.”
On the Republican side, US Representative Paul Gosar sent a letter to Secretary Burgham, requesting an inquiry into how the fire was initially managed. He raised concerns that the fire’s rapid spread might stem from policies adopted by the previous administration.
Governor Hobbs announced on X that Burgham is committed to looking into the decisions made during the fire response.
Local Sentiment
Innes remains focused on supporting the firefighters, hoping Kaibab Lodge will be unharmed. “The real heroes are the firefighters. They endure terrible conditions, living in tents and battling smoke. We owe them our immense gratitude for their dedication,” he expressed.
Fox 10 reached out to Gov. Hobbs, Sen. Kelly, and Arizona’s Republican Congress members for further insights on discussions held in Washington but is still awaiting a response.
