Arizona Legislature discusses hot topics

PHOENIX (KYMA, KECY) – On Monday, the Arizona Legislature held a new session to discuss a number of important issues in the state.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs also gave a State of the State address Monday afternoon.

During her speech, she touched on major topics affecting the state.

These include housing, borders, contraception, education, and water.

“We are proud to have secured an agreement that protects Arizonans from mandatory water use reductions through 2026, but the deadline is fast approaching and we still have work to do,” Governor Hobbs said. said.

But not only Gov. Hobbs, but also the Republican leadership of the Arizona House of Representatives announced their 2025 majority plan early Monday.

“From education to the economy to border security to government accountability, this is a roadmap for leading with purpose and delivering results for Arizonans,” said Congressman Michael Carbone, R-Ariz., 25th District. said.

Sens. Brian Fernandez and Tim Dunn weigh in on the governor’s State of the Union address.

“We know they want more school funding and more teacher resources. We know this is just a way forward, and we may disagree. So there were parts of the speech that I completely agreed with and parts that I didn’t,” said Senator Dunn.

“Certainly water and education are very important to our school district, so I’m really looking forward to working with the governor and Republican leaders to see how we can do what’s best for Arizona,” said Sen. Fernandez. ” he said.

The House also held its first regular session, where members took the oath of office and cast their first votes.
