Arizona man accused of using machete to damage campaign signs

Authorities say they are searching for a man who was seen vandalizing campaign signs in southwestern Arizona.

of Yuma According to the sheriff’s office, witnesses reported seeing a man run over a sign with a car, kick the sign away and use a machete to damage the sign in the area on Oct. 23. 40th Street and Foothills Boulevard.

When officers arrived at the scene, the man and his car were gone.

The sheriff’s office is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

“According to Arizona Revised Statute 16-1019.A, it is a second-degree misdemeanor to knowingly remove, alter, deface, or conceal a political sign of a candidate for public office without permission.” YCSO said. “Additional charges of trespass, theft and/or criminal damage may also apply in certain circumstances.”
