Arizona man driving to work finds bobcat under his vehicle’s hood; animal returned to the wild

Horsepower is important, but an Arizona man was driving to work when he found a bobcat under the hood of his car.

Officials with the Arizona Department of Game and Fish reported Friday that an unidentified driver unwittingly hit a bobcat while on his way to work recently in Gila Bend, about 117 kilometers southwest of Phoenix.

A Game and Fish official said, “He didn’t realize he had hit a bobcat until he parked the car and heard something under the hood.” “He looked under the hood and saw two eyeballs looking at him.”

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies from District 2, which serves the southwestern and other communities of the Gilabend, Tonopah, and other metropolitan Phoenix areas, arrived to the rescue, as did game and fish officials.

They managed to sedate the bobcat and remove it from behind the grill in the engine compartment of the car.

Wildlife officials said the bobcat was not injured and was released back into the wild.

“District 2 is still the Wild West!” read an online post from the Sheriff’s Department.
