Torres-Perez was charged with three counts of manslaughter, a second-degree felony.

MCAO said excessive speed, alcohol and other drugs were factors that contributed to the accident.

Gilbert police said Torres-Perez had marijuana and alcohol in his system and a blood alcohol content of 0.03, below the legal limit.

The Gilbert Police Department presented the case to the MCAO in February 2023. Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said prosecutors thoroughly reviewed the evidence.

“The defendant's reckless disregard for life killed an entire family,” Mitchell said in a news release. “After a thorough review of the evidence, it is time for Mr. Torres Perez to be held accountable for his actions.”

A grand jury recently issued a warrant for his arrest, and he is currently being held by the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office on $150,000 bail, according to MCAO.
