Flagstaff, Arizona (AZ Family) — Arizona Snowbowl reported more than a foot of snow fell between Wednesday and Thursday morning, prompting the ski resort to announce an earlier-than-expected opening.
The resort announced earlier this week that it would open on Friday, two weeks earlier than originally planned.
Will there be more snow for Friday’s Snowbowl ski season opening?
Snow will continue to fall at times, with 2 to 4 inches possible Thursday afternoon into Thursday night. However, the snow is expected to stop by the time the Snow Bowl opens on Friday.
Please dress appropriately. Winds could gust around 40 mph Thursday night into early Friday morning. Wind chill is expected to be near 0 degrees.
Friday is expected to be a sunny day with highs of around 33 degrees. Winds will ease a bit into the afternoon, but are still expected to gust 5 to 15 mph, with gusts around 20 mph.
This means wind chills at higher elevations will drop into the teens during the day. So don’t forget your hat and gloves!
No additional storms are expected this weekend after the current storm passes.
We’ll keep an eye on it next week as another disturbance could bring a small amount of snow to the mountains on Tuesday or Wednesday, but there’s no guarantee anything will materialize.
