The National Weather Service has issued severe cold weather warnings for several parts of Arizona, including Tohono Oddam Nation, Upper Santa Cruz River Valley/Alter Valley, Tucson Metro Area, South Central Pinal County, and Southeast Pinal County. The warning is in effect from Wednesday, February 15th at 11:00 PM until Thursday, February 16th at 9:00 AM.

Severe freeze warning warns of sub-zero temperatures up to 25 degrees Fahrenheit. This can cause frost and freezing conditions that can kill crops and other sensitive plants and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

In addition to hard freeze warningA wind advisory has also been issued for Tohono O’odham Nation, with southwest winds expected to reach 25 to 35 mph, with gusts expected to reach 50 mph. A gust of wind can blow around unsecured objects, blow tree branches, and cause power outages.

Residents of affected areas are advised to take extra precautions while driving, especially when driving high-profile vehicles, and to secure outdoor objects that may be blown away by gusts. In addition, measures should be taken to protect tender plants from the cold. For example, wrapping them, draining outdoor water pipes, or allowing them to drip slowly. Underground sprinkler systems should also be drained and above-ground pipes should be covered to protect against freezing.

It is important to take these precautions to avoid potential harm or damage caused by anticipated weather conditions. The National Weather Service will continue to monitor the situation and update warnings as necessary.

Residents of affected areas are encouraged to keep up-to-date with weather information and take all necessary precautions to protect themselves, their homes and property.
