FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Light snow is expected to fall Tuesday night into Christmas Day, giving northern Arizona the chance of a white Christmas. Local weather forecasters are urging residents and travelers to prepare for slippery roads and fluctuating temperatures.
The National Weather Service said a weak storm will bring a 30% chance of rain or snow Tuesday night, with temperatures dropping into the mid-20s. Snow is likely to continue into the afternoon on Christmas Day, with high winds and temperatures near 48 degrees Fahrenheit. Travelers traveling through Flagstaff on major roadways such as I-40 and US-89 should expect delays and take precautions.
Sunday and Monday will be mild and sunny with highs reaching 59°F and 58°F, respectively. Nighttime lows will drop into the 20s, further increasing the need for layering and safe heating. Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high near 56 degrees Fahrenheit, but cloud cover will increase overnight.
If snow falls on Wednesday, visibility could be reduced during the morning and afternoon hours. Those planning Christmas gatherings or last-minute shopping should monitor updates and consider adjusting their schedules.
Residents of lower elevations, including central Arizona, can expect mild conditions with highs in the mid-60s through Christmas. Meanwhile, mountain communities should prepare for a combination of high winds and wintry conditions later in the week.
