Flagstaff, Arizona – Snow showers and high winds are causing difficult conditions across Flagstaff today as a low pressure system moves through northern Arizona. Blowing snow and wind gusts up to 36 mph could reduce visibility, especially along I-40 and other high-elevation roads.
There is a 30% chance of snow showers by early morning, with less than half an inch expected to accumulate, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Winds from the northeast will reach up to 31 mph, making travel difficult in windswept areas. Drivers should use caution, especially on Interstate 40 and Interstate 17, and allow extra travel time.
Temperatures will remain near freezing today, with a high of 36°F. The weather will improve overnight, but temperatures will drop to 14°F with wind chills near single digits. Thursday will be sunny but windy in the afternoon, with wind speeds reaching 56 mph.
Looking ahead, Friday and Saturday will continue to be sunny with daytime highs of 43°F and 46°F, respectively. However, overnight lows will drop into the teens, and roads will continue to be at risk of icy conditions in the early morning hours.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and wear warm clothing to protect against wind chill. If you are traveling through mountain passes, please check the latest road conditions and be prepared for possible delays.
