FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Snowfall early Thursday is creating dangerous conditions on Flagstaff roads as northern Arizona experiences winter weather. Drivers are advised to slow down, allow more distance, and prepare for slippery conditions, especially along major routes such as Interstate 17. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Flagstaff reported that overnight snow continued to fall, making travel in the region more difficult and temperatures rising. There is a risk of accidents on busy roads.

Snowfall is expected to continue into Thursday morning, with a 40% chance of showers that could ease by 11 a.m., northeast winds that could reach 20 mph and poor visibility, according to the NWS. There is a possibility that it will get colder. Temperatures are expected to remain in the 20s to low 30s, with icy spots likely on untreated roads, sidewalks, and parking lots. Motorists are urged to drive with caution, especially in the early morning hours when visibility is poor and fresh snow has accumulated.

The forecast calls for a bit of a break Friday, with sunny skies and highs near 50 degrees. However, frigid conditions will continue Friday night with temperatures dropping into the low 20s. Weather is expected to improve over Veterans Day weekend, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees by Sunday, providing better road conditions and easier travel. This peaceful holiday provides a welcome opportunity for those traveling to honor veterans or participate in holiday weekend activities.

Flagstaff residents are in for a mix of cold and sunny weather for five days. After Thursday’s snowfall, mainly sunny and dry weather is expected to continue through the weekend into early next week. Those planning outdoor activities or local travel are advised to wear warm clothing and check road conditions before setting out.
