Army Releases Heavily Redacted Report On Arlington Cemetery Altercation

The Department of Defense (DOD) and the Army released a report Friday detailing an altercation that occurred during former President Donald Trump’s visit to Arlington National Cemetery in August.

President Trump commemorated the 13 U.S. military personnel killed during President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021 at a ceremony commemorating the third anniversary of the incident, but afterward, there was a dispute between campaign officials and Arlington National Cemetery. Reports of a physical altercation surfaced, sparking controversy. The incident occurred after a cemetery employee was “abruptly pushed aside” by a Trump campaign official as he attempted to enforce a rule banning political activity. According to Go to NPR.

According to NPR, in a statement after the incident, the Army said, “Participants in the Aug. 26 ceremony and subsequent Section 60 visit are in compliance with federal law, Army regulations, and national defense regulations that specifically prohibit political activity on cemetery grounds.” I was made aware of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications’ policy,” he said in a statement. “An ANC employee who was attempting to ensure compliance with these rules was suddenly sidelined.
