Arrest Made In The Killing Of A Pregnant Amish Woman

A man was arrested Saturday in connection with the death of a pregnant Amish woman, the Associated Press reported.

Sean C. Cranston, 52, is charged after the death of Rebecca A. Byler, 23. according to To AP. Charges against him include murder, fetal homicide, robbery and trespassing, the outlet reported, citing court records.

Cranston is being held in the Crawford County Jail without bail, the newspaper said. The arrest comes a week after Byler's body was found in his home, reportedly with severe injuries to his neck and head, the newspaper said. Two children were in the home with Byler at the time, but they were not harmed, the paper said. Officials suggested Mr. Byler's manner of death was particularly violent, including being shot and possibly having his throat cut. The case is reportedly scheduled for a preliminary hearing on March 15, 2024. Cranston has not listed an attorney, attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful, and the number listed for him is not working, according to the Associated Press. Officer Cynthia Schick previously revealed that the ongoing investigation and autopsy results are providing investigators with clues about a possible murder weapon, the newspaper reported. The revelation comes as the Byler family grapples with the loss. A court spokeswoman said an affidavit detailing police's interpretation of the incident would be released at a later date, along with other records, according to the Associated Press.
