At Least 1 Dead, 11 Injured After Tour Boat Capsizes In Underground Cave

One person was killed and several injured when a tourist boat carrying 29 people capsized in an underground cavern along the Erie Canal in upstate New York on Monday.

A 60-year-old man died after being trapped under an overturned flat-bottomed pontoon operated by Lockport Cave and Underground Boat Ride (CNN) report. Ambulance crews rescued 16 of the survivors, the rest were unaided and safely, according to the report. Eleven people suffered various injuries. Lockport Fire Chief Luca Qualiano said the boat could hold up to 40 people, CNN reported.
