AAC Announces Basketball Tournaments in Birmingham
The American Athletic Conference (AAC) shared an important announcement over the weekend that will be significant for the residents of Alabama. Birmingham City, along with Legacy Arena at the BJCC, is set to host the AAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournaments before they move to Tampa, Florida, in 2027 and 2028.
“We are extremely excited to welcome the American Athletic Conference into the Legacy Arena,” said BJCC Executive Director and CEO TAD Snider. “With previous events, like the NCAA Women’s Regionals and the men’s tournament rounds held in 2023, Birmingham has truly established itself as a prime destination for championship basketball. We take pride in showcasing our vibrant city and top-notch venues.”
The AAC also expressed gratitude towards Birmingham in a statement. Commissioner Tim Pernetti mentioned, “We are thrilled to bring the basketball championships to Birmingham and Tampa. Our main goal during this bidding process was to ensure the best possible experience for student-athletes. Birmingham and Tampa’s capability to support these championships year-round will help create unforgettable moments for both players and fans.”
Birmingham has established its reputation as a premier basketball destination, notably after hosting the NCAA tournament two years ago, which featured both Alabama and Auburn in the first round. With Legacy Arena’s commitment to providing a stellar atmosphere, the city remains a strong candidate for future tournaments as well.
