Attempted homicide suspect in custody

YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – A suspect was taken into custody early Saturday morning in downtown Yuma on suspicion of attempted murder.

Two men, ages 25 and 31, were hit by a vehicle as they fled the scene, according to the Yuma Police Department.

The incident occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday as the YPD responded to welfare checks near Second Street and Madison Avenue.

Yuma Police Department Sergeant Laurie Franklin said: “The first collided, the second threw up as he tried to stop the vehicle, and eventually both collided.”

Police later found the vehicle near First and Fifth Avenues and arrested two suspects.

“The vehicle took off and officers located and stopped the vehicle. There were two subjects in the vehicle, both of whom were taken into custody. Finally, the passengers were interviewed and released, and the driver has been booked on attempted murder charges,” Franklin said.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and refused medical care.

This is an ongoing investigation, so if anyone has information about the incident, please call YPD or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous.
