Attempted robbery leads to fatal shooting of 20-year-old man in Tucson

A Tucson man died Friday in a parking lot on University Boulevard in Tucson after an attempted robbery ended in a fatal shooting, police said.

Tucson police responded to reports of a shooting near Seventh Avenue and East University Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Witnesses reported that a man, later identified as 20-year-old Jesus Romero, suffered an apparent gunshot wound in his car, police said.

A bystander in the parking lot reportedly attempted first aid on Romero but was unsuccessful.

Homicide investigators later learned that the shooting occurred as a result of an attempted robbery. According to the sergeant, Romero and Makenzie Jamin, the woman who was with Romero at the time of his death, reportedly teamed up with another adult man to plan to rob him at a local park.
