The Auburn City Board is scheduled to vote next Friday on plans to renovate Jordan-Hare Stadium, including installing a new video board in the north end zone side of the venue.
Currently, the video board at Jordan-Hare only has one large screen on the south end zone side, something the school has been planning for for years.
according to auburn undercoverPlans for a similar project were approved in 2017 and cost $6.3 million, but were tabled by former Auburn City President Stephen Reese and ultimately taken off the table.
New AD John Cohen has made this project a top priority since arriving at Auburn last October.
“We've been having a lot of discussions about this. We're working hard behind the scenes to come up with a plan. When will that happen? How long will it take once we start? …Everything right now These things don't happen overnight. …We have to work on some things in the north end zone, but we're very excited to have the opportunity to do that. I’m excited,” Cohen said.
Cohen talked about the fact that Auburn students, who are under the giant videoboard in the south end zone, have to turn around to watch replays and other video content at their home stadium.
“We have to do more than that. We’re going to design it into a zone,” Cohen said of the planned renovations.
Cohen also said the video board in the north end zone is “priority number one.”
The Auburn City Board will ultimately vote next Friday, Feb. 2, on whether to move forward with the project.
