Auburn secures national championship in golf with victory over Florida State

The Auburn University Tigers were crowned national champions after defeating the Florida State Seminoles, 3-2, in the final at the Omni La Costa North Course in Carlsbad, California.

This came after a thrilling Tuesday in which the Tigers beat the University of Virginia and Ohio State en route to the program's first ever Final Four berth.

Senior JM Butler won the match with a par putt on the 17th hole, while freshman sensation Jackson Koiven chipped in on the 14th hole to secure the win.

Koibun said he was pleased to have helped win the title after a stellar rookie year in which he received accolades after accolades.

“I was happy to be a part of it,” Koibun said. “I was just trying to make up for the ups and downs and was lucky enough to hit the flag and finish. There are a lot of emotions going on. I've won a lot of awards but this is definitely the biggest one.”

Auburn University head coach Nick Clinard also expressed pride in his team.

“We have a great group of young guys. We have six of the best players in the country,” Coach Clinard said. “We have great leadership. They went out there today and got the job done.”
