Auburn welcomes teams while Alabama travels as NCAA Baseball regionals start

College Baseball Postseason Kicks Off

The college baseball postseason is here, with conference tournaments set to start on Friday, marking the beginning of the journey to Omaha.

To make it to the College World Series, teams must navigate through four regions and then advance past the super regionals. The regional round consists of a four-team double-elimination tournament, while the super regional is structured as a three-game series.

Out of 16 regions, only a limited number of teams get the chance to compete, and interestingly, many of these sites are on SEC campuses. The top four seeds in the tournament all come from the SEC, including five of the top six teams, and of course, the Auburn Tigers are among them.

The fourth-seeded Tigers are tied for the best record in their program’s history and will host the regional, starting with a game against Central Connecticut this Friday. The other two teams in this regional are North Carolina and Stetson, who will be playing that afternoon to determine who will move on in the tournament.

On the other hand, the Alabama Crimson Tide faces a tough path after being placed as the 17th overall seed. They’ll head to Hattiesburg where they will compete against teams like Southern Miss, Columbia, and Miami. Alabama’s first game is against Miami on Friday night, and they’ll be looking to make a strong start.

Should Alabama advance, they might find themselves in a super regional showdown against top-seeded Vanderbilt in Nashville.

This could mark Alabama’s first trip back to Omaha since 1999, while Auburn is aiming to return for the first time since 2022, following a lengthy gap from 1997 to 2019.

There’s a buzz in the air as the teams gear up for what promises to be an exhilarating postseason in the South, as they all strive for a chance at college baseball greatness.
