Auburn Tigers Recruiting Struggles Under Hugh Freeze
The Auburn Tigers, led by head coach Hugh Freeze, are encountering significant difficulties in recruiting lately.
In today’s college sports environment, commitments seem to shift more frequently than ever—like changing socks, really. It’s pretty wild.
Recently, Auburn’s situation became even more precarious as three recruits decommitted and chose other schools.
One of the notable departures was Jamichael Garrett, a four-star linebacker from Gulf Shores, who had been part of the 2025 class but decided to back out a few weeks ago. Shadarius Toodle, another four-star player from Mobile, also flipped his commitment over the weekend to Georgia.
And if that’s not enough, four-star wide receiver Devin Carter has now switched gears and is heading to Florida instead.

6’1, 175 WR has been committed to the Tigers since January. His dad, Dexter, played RB for FSU and was a first-round NFL Draft pick.

6’3, 235 from Mobile has been committed to the Tigers since July 2024. “If you want to be the best, why not play with the best?”

While it’s still months until these decisions are finalized, Auburn has slipped out of the top 80 in recruiting rankings. It’s a tough spot.
Despite the challenges, there’s hope. Hugh Freeze really needs to pull off some wins this fall to regain momentum and turn things around.
