Matthew DawsonThe Australian field hockey player revealed on Wednesday that he has decided to have part of his ring finger amputated in order to take part in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
During pre-Olympic competition, Dawson broke her finger, so she didn't want to let the injury and recovery process stop her from competing internationally. (Related: Wildlife video shows fisherman nearly killed by marlin)
“I made an informed decision with my orthopedic surgeon at the time, not only for the opportunity to play in Paris, but for the rest of my life,” Dawson said. 7News. “The best option for me was to cut off the tip of my finger.”
Dawson said it was a long-term decision he and his wife had made together, and that the injury would provide him with a “change” and an “exciting challenge”.

I have never seen such dedication to amputating a body part just to play a sport. It's insane.
You know the saying, “Go for it!” …and this guy totally amplified that saying by amputating his finger. GREAT!
