Authorities Announce Plans to Send Abrego Garcia to Uganda

Immigration Authorities Notify Kilmar Abrego Garcia of Potential Deportation

Kilmar Abrego Garcia has been informed by immigration officials that he may soon be deported to Uganda. An email, which was obtained by a news source, revealed that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) communicated this potential deportation to Garcia’s legal team. The notice requests that they report to Baltimore’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency.

According to the notification, DHS intends for Garcia to be removed from the U.S. within 72 hours, excluding weekends. This announcement comes on the heels of Garcia’s release from a Tennessee prison, where he spent several months due to allegations of human smuggling.

Garcia gained public attention after a previous deportation to a high-security facility in El Salvador earlier this year, which the Trump administration later described as a mistake. As an undocumented immigrant, he allegedly facilitated the illegal entry of individuals from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Ecuador into the United States from 2016 to 2025. His troubles began during a traffic stop in Tennessee in 2022, where authorities discovered nine undocumented passengers in his vehicle.

A federal judge in Tennessee approved Garcia’s pre-trial release in July, though it was temporary. Officials from the Trump administration contested this decision, citing concerns about community safety and flight risk.

Before his release, it’s reported that Garcia turned down a plea deal that would have left him in custody but would result in his deportation to Costa Rica.
