Authorities Detain Suspect in Shooting at News Station

Shooting at ABC News Station in Sacramento

A 64-year-old man from Sacramento faces three felony charges following a shooting incident at an ABC News Station on Friday afternoon.

Police took Anibal Hernandez Santana into custody after the shooting targeted the Sacramento office of ABC10 around 1:30 PM, where an employee was inside. The charges against him include assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an occupied building, and negligent discharge of a firearm, as per Sacramento County Jail records.

Fortunately, no one was hurt during the event, although several employees were in the building when bullets shattered at least three windows. A local journalist shared video footage on X, showing numerous bullet holes in the station’s glass.

According to Sacramento police, Hernandez Santana fired from a vehicle before he could flee the scene. Officers quickly identified his car, leading to his arrest. The FBI is also involved in the ongoing investigation, assisting local authorities.

While details remain unclear, it’s not known why Hernandez Santana chose to target the television station. The Sacramento Police Department stated that “the motivation remains under investigation.”

This shooting occurred just a day after roughly 15 protesters gathered outside the station in response to ABC’s decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel for remarks concerning conservative activist Charlie Kirk. It’s worth noting that although ABC10 broadcasts ABC Network programming, it’s actually owned by Tegna, not Disney.

Hernandez Santana is currently held on a $200,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. At this time, there are no mug shots available.

In light of the recent shooting, ABC7 in San Francisco has increased police patrols around their building as a precautionary measure.
