Authorities identify man who drowned after falling through ice at Arizona lake

Payson, Arizona (AZ Family) — The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who drowned after falling through the ice at a northern Arizona lake over the weekend.

On Tuesday, CCSO identified the man as 26-year-old Abhishek Shigakoli. Investigators at the scene were told that Shigahakoli had come from India to attend Arizona State University. It is unclear whether Mr. Shigakoli is a current or former student at ASU.

First responders are Forest Lakes Fire District They were called to a drowning incident at a lake located east of Payson.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a man’s body was pulled from Woods Canyon Lake around 10 a.m. Monday. His identity has not yet been determined.(Arizona family)

According to the fire district, three people walked on ice on a frozen lake and fell into the water. The two were able to get out of the water, but Shigacoli, of Phoenix, is still missing.

Forest Lakes Fire District and Arizona Department of Public Safety personnel searched for the man by helicopter but were unable to find him.

Efforts by the Gila County Dive Team yielded no results, and the search was called off as darkness fell.

Recovery efforts continued as Shigakoli was recovered on Monday morning. No other information has been released.
