Yuma — Tom Tyree and John Stratton have been elected to the 2023 AWC Hall of Fame.
Established in 2011, the AWC Hall of Fame recognizes alumni, faculty and community leaders from Yuma and La Paz counties who have made significant contributions to the mission and goals of the university or made outstanding contributions to their communities and beyond.
A native of Arizona, Tom Tyree has worked in public education for 50 years in various capacities, including teacher, coach, and Yuma County superintendent. John Stratton has been his AWC baseball head coach for over 27 years and has positively impacted hundreds of young people during his tenure.
The AWC Foundation will recognize Tyree and Stratton at the Schoolhouse Soiree in October. Last year’s inaugural ceremony merged two of his AWC Foundation events over the years, the Hall of Fame and the Celebration of Scholars, to commemorate the Yuma and La Paz community members, generous donors, and scholarship-winning students who have made a difference in education. The AWC Foundation raised nearly $42,000 for her during last year’s event and established the Gold Heart Fund for scholarships. This year’s goal is to raise her $60,000 for her 60 years of service to the community.

The Schoolhouse Soiree will be held on Friday, October 6th from 6-10pm at the AWC Schoening Conference Center at 2020 S. Ave 8E.
Tickets for the event are $100.
