AWC San Luis Learning Center launches new program

leadHERship holds a series of five monthly workshops exploring a variety of topics.

SAN LUIS, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – Arizona Western College (AWC) San Luis Learning Center has announced an initiative called leadHERship, focused on promoting gender equality and empowerment within the community.

The workshop will begin on Monday, Jan. 29 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in Room 104 of the San Luis Learning Center, 1340 N. 8th Avenue, according to AWC.

The next workshop dates are February 26th, March 25th, April 29th, and May 13th.

These workshops provide students of all genders with a platform to engage in meaningful conversations, develop leadership skills, and drive positive change.

LeadHERship is a program that addresses the needs and challenges faced by women in our communities.

According to AWC, participants will explore themes such as overcoming stereotypes, mentorship and networking, empowerment through education, and women's leadership.

The program was selected as one of 10 proposals approved through the 2024 AWC Innovation Fund, AWC said.

AWC says, Dr. Sarah Amani, Multilingual Composition Professor/Expert: Susie Zambrano, South Yuma County Deputy Director of Services; and her advisor and student services coordinator, Maria Guzman, were awarded $20,000 for her leadHERship proposal to implement the program.

“We invite all members of the AWC community to join us on this transformative journey towards gender equality and empowerment. Together, we create positive change and foster growth and success for all individuals. We can foster a campus culture that promotes ,” Dr. Amani said.

AWC announced that the program will also award $250 scholarships to 10 outstanding students who actively participate in the program and demonstrate a commitment to gender equality.

Students, faculty and staff are welcome to participate in workshops and are encouraged to participate in monthly discussions and activities.
