AZ lecture series: Jinx Pile at 7 p.m. on Jan. 25

The Arizona Lecture Series continues on Monday, January 25th at 7:00 pm with “Pleasant Valley Wars” by Jinx Pyle. Mr. Pyle was born in the West and spent most of his life making a living from cattle and horses, much like his great-grandfather did. It is fitting that Mr. Pyle recounts the history of the Pleasant Valley War. He is his sixth generation descendant of Gila County ranchers and a full-time student in Arizona history. He grew up watching told tales of the Pleasant Valley War and is descended from a culture that spawned a fighting faction. “It is my desire to give readers an accurate picture of the Pleasant Valley War, while at the same time giving serious historians new information never before told. More than 120 years later, at last the grandchildren of those who have passed down history through their families and never been told to outsiders will tell some stories never before revealed to the public. Coming February 1: The Woman Who Shot the Cowboy: Rodeo Photographer Louise Serpa by Jean Clair. If you’ve ever watched an angry bull sprint across an arena, you’ll know why rodeo photographer Louise Serpa used to say, “Never pay attention.” Louise, who was born into New York socialites, buries her nose in the dirt, heads west with her eyes glued to the camera, steps her foot inside the arena, and takes in rodeo action at its finest. She was the first woman to be photographed. Yann Claire spent three years researching and writing the biography of rodeo photographer Louise Serpa.
