AZ Wilderness Partners With Equality Maricopa to Make Arizona’s First LGBT License Plate a Reality

The Arizona Wilderness Brewing Company has announced the launch of Prism, a prickly pear lager to raise funds for Arizona’s first LGBTQIA+ license plate.

The beer will be launched in partnership with Equality Maricopa, a resource group supporting LGBTQIA+ students and staff at 10 Maricopa Community Colleges across the Valley. Last year, Equality Maricopa began lobbying the state of Arizona to create a special license plate, the proceeds of which will forever fund the PRISM Scholarship, a scholarship for LGBTQIA+ students. If adopted, Arizona will be one of the first states to have an LGBTQIA+-themed license plate design.

To make the license plates, the organization would have to give the state $32,000, more than half of its goal. A portion of the sales of Prism (beer) will be donated to cover the remaining funds.

Speaking of beer, Prism, named after the PRISM scholarship, is a delightful, fruit-forward lager brewed with Arizona prickly pear. Each tin label includes an illustration of a proposed license plate design. Each tin also contains his QR code with a link to donate directly to the PRISM Scholarship Fund.

To celebrate the beer launch, Byodo Maricopa will be hosting a Happy Hour at the DTPHX Beer Garden in the Arizona Wilderness on Saturday, June 10 from 4-8pm. For every pint of beer sold during the event, $1 will be donated to create license plates. fund.
