A Brazilian woman died Monday, two days after being hit in the neck by a beer bottle during a brawl at a soccer game, the Associated Press reported.
Gabriela Anelli, 23, was reportedly injured in a brawl between Palmeiras and Flamengo supporters at a football match on Saturday. APs I got it. Annelli was hit while trying to enter Sao Paulo’s Allianz Parque stadium to watch the Brazilian championship. The president of the Brazilian Football Federation, Ednardo Rodríguez, said in a statement that he was cooperating with the authorities “to ensure that such criminal and sad events do not happen again”, according to the Associated Press.
“Like racism,[violence]is enough on its own,” Rodriguez said. “Football is a competition of passions, not a place for infiltrated criminals to wreak havoc.”
Palmeiras said on social media that Brazilians “cannot tolerate a 23-year-old woman being the victim of barbarism in a place that should be for entertainment.”The football team has asked local authorities to further investigate the incident as it tarnishes the image of the sport in Brazil.

Another brawl erupted on the other side of the stadium after Annelly was hit, according to the Associated Press, forcing the referee to stop the match as police tear gas faded.
A minute’s silence will be held in Annelli’s honor at the next Brazilian championship game.
