Major League Baseball (MLB) Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson died Friday at the age of 65 after an illness, TMZ first reported.
He reportedly contracted pneumonia and died in Oakland, California, after a brief hospitalization. reportedcited a source with direct knowledge.

“I still can’t believe we lost my favorite teammate and great friend Rickey Henderson. May he rest in peace,” said MLB legend and former teammate Dave Winfield. I wrote On Instagram.

In a 25-year career that began with the Oakland Athletics in 1979 and ended with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2003, Henderson had 3,055 hits, 297 home runs, a .279 batting average and was named an All-Star 10 times. He played for the Yankees, Blue Jays, Mets, and Padres.

Henderson holds the record for most stolen bases in MLB history with 1,406 stolen bases, earning him the nickname “The Stealing Base Man.”
The Chicago-born athlete’s ability to steal bases was evident from his first year in MLB. Three years later, in 1982, he broke the record by stealing 130 bases in a single season. This is proof of his speed and is a record that cannot be surpassed. MLB.

Henderson was also a well-known illegalist. “Ricky, when I was on first base, I always spoke in the third person…’Hey, Thrill, Ricky, I’m here!'” Fellow All-Star Will “The Thrill” Clark said San Francisco radio station KNBR. Mr. Clark also shared other instances of Mr. Henderson’s misconduct.
