The number of LGBT students in Ivy League schools has reportedly surged.
According to data compiled by colleges and published by the New York Post, 35% of Princeton students now identify as LGBT, as do 29% at Yale, 28.9% at Harvard, 21.4% at Cornell and 15% at the University of Pennsylvania. brown university sparked controversy The New York Post reported in early July that 38% of students identified as LGBT. In 2010, it was reported that 14% of Brown’s students identified with her as LGBT.
“Honestly, I’m not surprised by that statistic,” a Brown student told the New York Post. “At Braun, there is no social pressure that he has to fit in or that he has to hide his identity.”

Princeton University alumnus Abigail Anthony reportedly argued that some students may cling to their LGBT identities because of campus culture.
“Many people will claim LGBTQ status and join ‘repressed’ groups because sexual identity is almost irrefutable,” Anthony told the New York Post.
“Students in elite schools may be more obsessed with social acceptance and professional advancement, and may come out as LGBTQ to demonstrate their political beliefs on left-leaning campuses,” Anthony added.
An anonymous student at Columbia University told the media outlet that the LGBT community was rampant on campus.
“It’s becoming the majority,” said the Columbia student.
