‘Believe Me, We Are Asking’: CNN’s Dana Bash Bristles As J.D. Vance Asks Why Kamala Hasn’t Done An Interview In Weeks

CNN host Dana Bash clashed with Republican Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio on Sunday after he pushed Vice President Kamala Harris for not answering a question about comments about childfree women.

Harris has not given an interview or press conference since President Joe Biden ended his reelection bid on July 21. Vance criticized Bash, saying he had three questions about “sarcastic comments” he made in 2021. (Related: Democratic senator says Harris can avoid interviews because she's “done her job” as VP)

“I wonder how Kamala Harris feels about supporting an open southern border, about lying to the American people about Joe Biden's mental state going into the presidency,” Vance said, before Bash interjected, “I'm interviewing you, not Kamala Harris.”

“Dana, you're interviewing me, and I'm doing it because I respect the American people,” Vance responded.

“Kamala Harris has been a candidate for three weeks now and she has yet to give a proper interview,” Vance said, to which Bash responded, “Trust me, we are asking questions. You can't disagree with me.”

“But the point, Dana, you can take me for 15 minutes, or however long you want, we should be talking about important public policy issues,” Vance said. “How do we get inflation under control? How do we get food costs down? How do we get housing costs down? How do we close our southern border? We've barely talked about that. We've talked a lot about the cynical comments I made three years ago. I think we should be talking about issues that most Americans care about.”

“Well, I only asked you one question about it,” Bash argued.

During the wide-ranging 20-minute interview, Bash questioned Vance at least once about his 2021 child-free cat lady comments and also pressed him several times about whether Vance viewed Democrats as “anti-children.”
