A group representing victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks Tuesday condemned the PGA’s merger with LIV Golf.
The 9/11 Families United group issued a statement condemning the decision, saying its members were “shocked and deeply outraged”.
“PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan last year worked with the 9/11 community in the PGA’s clear agreement that the Saudi LIV project was nothing more than a sportswash that discredited Saudi Arabia,” said 9/11 Families United president. Terry Strada wrote in an article. statement. “But now the PGA and Monaghan spent billions to cleanse Saudi Arabia’s honor and how the Saudis spent billions to finance terrorism before 9/11. I wondered aloud on national television: they are doing it now, and so is he: The PGA Tour leader should be ashamed of his own hypocrisy and greed,” Strada added. “Our entire 9/11 community has been betrayed by Commissioner Monaghan and the PGA. It never seems to have paid tribute to a good game.”
