If the bill passes, ADCNR would receive about $25 million per year to implement the state's Wildlife Action Plan, which identifies 366 species most in need of protection, including bald and golden eagles, various bat species, Alabama sturgeon, American black bears, eastern spotted snakes and gopher turtles.

Additionally, this bill is expected to boost Alabama's outdoor recreation economy, which depends on healthy fish and wildlife populations. This bill will increase wildlife viewing opportunities and directly contribute to millions of jobs and billions of dollars in annual consumer spending across the nation. Passage of RAWA would allow Alabama to implement these projects immediately.

A similar bill passed committee in the 117th Congress but never reached a vote in the Senate, despite strong bipartisan support. Senator Britt is sponsoring the current version of the bill along with nine other Senate Republicans, Democrats and independents.

Since it was first introduced in Congress, RAWA has garnered broad public support, including from the American Fish and Wildlife Alliance, whose goal is to modernize the funding model for critically needed fish and wildlife protection. The Alliance represents a national coalition in support of this legislation, including the energy industry, auto industry, private landowners, tribal nations, educational institutions, outdoor recreation and conservation organizations, and state and federal fish and wildlife agencies.
