Bisbee High School’s Gabby Lopez first player to 1,000 career points

BISBEE, Ariz. (KGUN) — Gaby Lopez of Bisbee High School is the first player in the school’s history to reach or exceed 1,000 career points. She reached the milestone in her November and is creating her new record in all points.

Lopez, a senior, set a goal of reaching 1,000 points as a freshman. In her first season with the national team, she scored her 542 points. Bisbee said her COVID-19 concerns lingered so much that she won’t be playing basketball in 2021, weakening her spirits when it comes to reaching her goals.

Little did she know just how close she really was at the start of the final season.

Lopez reached this historic milestone by surpassing 1,000 career points in two games during the 2022-2023 season at the Boyd Baker Tournament in Tucson. Head coach Courtney Volquez and the team surprised Lopez with a basketball and an autographed shirt to commemorate the moment.

“She’s the best I’ve seen through Bisbee,” Volquez said. So to see her come and help her score 1000 points on the court is really special. ”

Lopez is the first basketball player to reach 1,000 points in school history. She is the first basketball player in Cochise County to reach this milestone since Kino Herberinger of Buena High School in 2018.
