A statewide photo contest is aimed at celebrating the excitement of fishing in Alabama’s black belt, inviting anglers of all ages to showcase their best catches for a chance to win awards.
The Alabama Black Belt Adventure Association (Albbaa) has introduced the 2025 Best Fish Photo Contest, which runs from August 1st to September 30th. This event offers fishing enthusiasts a chance to explore the area’s diverse fishing locations, including bustling lakes, meandering rivers, and quaint local streams.
“There’s really nothing like the joy of catching a fish. The 2025 Best Fish Photo Contest is all about celebrating that feeling,” remarked Pam Swanner, the association’s director. “We want to see the various ways people enjoy the rich fishing opportunities in the black belt, whether it’s showing off a trophy bass, capturing moments with grandchildren, or displaying their very first catch.”
Photos submitted must depict fish caught within the black belt during 2025 and can be entered via the Albbaa website. Voting will occur on the same platform.
The winner will receive a $100 gift card.
Here are the contest rules:
– Participants may vote once daily from a single IP address.
– Only one photo entry per participant is allowed.
– Entries must include the county where the fish were caught and the name of the individual in the photo.
– Albbaa holds the right to approve or reject submissions.
– Previous winners from the last three contests are not eligible.
– Photos deemed unethical, disrespectful, or in violation of Alabama conservation laws will be disqualified.
Anglers should also remember to adhere to all state fishing laws, including obtaining a valid Alabama fishing license.
“For those of us living in the black belt, having so many accessible public fishing spots is truly appreciated,” said Swanner. “Some lean toward fancy boats, while others enjoy the simplicity of fishing off the bank with cane poles. By looking at all these photos, we aim to celebrate the fantastic outdoor recreational experiences available across 23 counties in the black belt.”
The Black Belt region encompasses the following counties: Barber, Brock, Butler, Choctaw, Clark, Conecuh, Crenshaw, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Monroe, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Russell, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Wilcox.
